11.30AM African Art Music for Woodwind
A special African flute concert featuring two of the most prominent African flutists, Baba Gallé Kanté from Guinea on fulani flute and British flutist Rowland Sutherland. They will be joined by pianist Rebeca Omordia, percussionists Richard Olatunde Baker and Moussa Dembele. The programme features West African traditional songs for Fulani flute and African art music for flute highlighting the Oja Flute Suite by Joshua Uzoigwe (Nigeria), selections from the Republic Suite by Kwabena Nketia (Ghana) and Visions by Bongani Ndodana-Breen (South Africa).
3.00PM Music from North Africa
The programme is a musical kaleidoscope from Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and Sudan featuring Algerian traditional songs with Abdelkader Saadoun on mandola, piano music by Nabil Benabdeljalil from Morocco with pianist Rebeca Omordia and chamber music for strings with Ubuntu Ensemble. Highlights in the programme include the Piano Trio by Gamal Abdel-Rahim and Miniatures Algériennes for strings by Salim Dada.
7.30PM An Evening of African Choral Music
Lichfield Gospel Choir and Imbube Singers from South Africa come together under MD Themba Mvula for an evening of choral arrangements of African traditional songs and spirituals and a selection of Fred Onovwerosuoke (FredO)’s Songs of Africa.
